During the Veep's in-depth and thorough analysis of gun violence and how to reduce it, he reportedly told a representative of the NRA that "We simply don't have the time or the resources" to prosecute those who give false information on the form used for background checks. O-Kay. So we don't have time to enforce the laws we already have, but we desparately need to enact more. Make sense?
This took place during the five minutes which Jim Baker of the NRA was given by Joe to present the NRAs concerns and recommendations to prevent massacres like what took place in Newtown, CT. The Veep's comment was made in response to Baker's pointing out the low number of prosecutions for information falsification and the low felony prosecution rate for gun crimes. Submitting false information on ATF Form 4473 is a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison. Talk about an easy way to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.... Oh, well.
