Did you ever wonder what possessed Bush to sign the Energy Bill that banned some incandescents, starting the end of this year? I have, and I finally got my answer yesterday. Dana Perino - Bush'press secretary - said the provision was added to a bill that Bush really wanted, it was added at the last minute by - who else? - Nancy Pelosi, so Bush signed it. It was added under the pretext of creating "green jobs" in the U.S. Dana said she remembers being appalled at the time that government would presume to tell us what light bulbs we had to buy.
Interesting post scripts:
- Incandescent bulbs are made largely in the U.S.; their replacement - cfl's - are made largely in China!
- Dana Perino has been hoarding incandescents ever since!
I'm reading that even though the vote to repeal this bill was unsuccessful in the House yesterday, it still may not be over; however I, too, am a hoarder, just in case.
