Elections, Priorities and an Appointment

It's been more than two months since I posted on this blog.  Like post-2012 elections, following the 2013 results, I was so disappointed and distraught I didn't know what to say.  Our own party has let us down two years in a row and I know I don't need to say any more, but we have GOT TO GET OVER IT!  We have a second term President Obama and a Governor McAuliffe because of members of our own party.  (Yes, other factors entered into both races, but we could have won had we been united.  The Dems seem to be able to pull it off.)  We cannot all be in lock step, thinking the same way, believing the same things, having the same priorities all the time, BUT, as Republicans, we ALL believe in the basic principles of smaller government, lower taxes, a strong national defense and individual liberties and responsibilities.  How about we just start from there?!  Let's kick out of office all the people who don't believe in those basic principles first (Dems), THEN go after those (Republicans) who we believe don't share those principles to the extent they should?  Make sense?

I am totally sickened by the prospect of a Governor McAuliffe.  Not because I don't think he's a nice person - which I actually do not and hope I'm wrong - but because I don't believe he's even remotely qualified to govern the Commonwealth of Virginia.  He's a fundraiser, a schmoozer, part of the good old boy network.  (Yet they successfully use the "scare women" tactic in every election?!!)  I told the Smith Mountain Eagle the other day - God, please don't let them print anything that I said... just kidding! - in response to a question, that my biggest fear of a Governor McAuliffe is that he has no clue about how to govern, but with his background as a fundraiser and given the vast powers he has as the governor of Virginia, he will use those powers to repay political favors.  He will make appointments based on political pay-backs, not what's best for the good citizens of Virginia.

Which brings me to the first piece of evidence to back up what I just said:  An article from the Bearing Drift regarding a cabinet level appointment:

McAuliffe kills job creation with flawed choice for Commerce

For a guy who campaigned on his business credentials, Terry McAuliffe is looking more like a hyper-partisan crony collector.
Governor-elect McAuliffe has chosen former Virginian-Pilot publisher Maurice Jones as his Secretary of Commerce and Trade.
As if we want Virginia’s economy to produce the failing numbers of newspapers.
Under Jones’ management, the Virginian-Pilot laid off hundreds of workers and saw advertising revenue plummet. Is that what Virginia has to look forward to with Maurice Jones running the job-creating economic development agencies that have performed so superbly under Bob McDonnell?
Look at Jones’ resume. Other than running a newspaper into the ground, he had a very short run as Obama’s deputy secretary of Housing and Urban Development lasting barely over a year.
His other credentials? Social Services under Mark Warner. Oh, and a law degree. Yippee!
What in heaven’s name has this guy ever done to create a job?
His comment on the nomination: “I’m excited and I’m scared, all at the same time.”
No, sir. We’re the ones who are scared.

Buckle up, Virginia!  We're in for one helluva a ride in the next four years.  Hello, Hillary!  Welcome to Virginia.  We love you down here!
