At the EastLake Business Association candidates' forum on Tuesday, one of them said that Virginia's 5th Congressional District is roughly the size of the state of New Jersey. I confirmed that is true. Know what that means? That means that, beginning Wednesday, June 9th, no matter who we supported in the primary, it is IMPERATIVE that we get behind the winning candidate AND do whatever is asked of us to assure that he or she wins in November.
So you aren't that crazy about one or two or six of the candidates? Fine! I don't agree with anyone on every issue, but the perfect candidate for everyone is non-existent. How crazy are you about Nancy Pelosi's lap dog, Tom Perriello, our current illustrious representative? How crazy were you about his votes on the Stimulus, Cap and Trade and Health Care, etc.? If we don't do our part to oust him, we will deserve what we get if he's re-elected.
And that's my sermon for the day . . . . . taken from the first book of Ronald Reagan, chapter and verse of Dick Armey.

The goal is clear, and we all agree -- ousting Mr P by sending a Conservative representative to Congress. The first steps start with accepting the decision of a Primary vote and getting behind the winner. What are the next ones? Here are some practical suggestions.
(1) Help FCRC build up-to-date lists of phone, email, and postal addresses. One way to do this is by printing voter registration forms (see links at this site) and getting them to your neighbors and friends. In the 5th District, 3 out of 5 will vote GoP.
(2) Every one of us must find five or six advertising spots (print media, bulletin board, personal roadside location, blog site, etc) and keep it posted with pointers to latest events, candidate info.
(3) Each one of us MUST commit to taking one friend, and one undeclared voter to the polls in November. (If there had been 1500 more votes in 2008, with 3/5 GoP, Mr. Goode would still be in DC.)
(4) FCRC needs to know how to reach non-voters who will support the GoP candidate. Send in your ideas.
-- offer rides to the polls, but how best to do that;
-- get on the band stand at fish frys and picnics, but when and where;
-- cover the crowds at Krogers better than the Salvation Army, but who will pass out the flyers?)
This last is the reason I write. If SML Republicans can simply "cover the major food stores" each weekend up to Election Day, starting ...?..., with voter registration handouts, collecting addresses, passing out pointers to candidate info on the web ... SML Republicans will make this a bonanza election.
